There are several possible sources for dust.
First is the heating/ air conditioning system. Cold air is circulated from the furnace room and draws the air through the cold air returns into the furnace unit, then when the air is heated or cooled it is forced through the ducts to each room. You may have dirty duct and cold air returns that need to be cleaned. Also if one of your cold air returns is located in a dusty room such as a workshop or storage area it will be drawing that dust from that room into the system and through the house. The best solution there is to close off that source or have a HVAC contractor redirect the source to continue supplying the system with cold air from from a cleaner source.
Another source could be the dust in infiltrating the windows and walls from outside. If you have an older house without good insulation and building components or windows that are not air tight just the natural wind, convection and outside sources for dust could be finding its way into the house. If you think that may be the cause, know that there is a federal grant program for updating your house for energy efficiency that may help with some of the costs while improving the dust situation.
