Painting your front door in a fabulous colour is one of the simplest ways to express your style. Further, the right front door colour can really enhance your home’s curb appeal. Here are some tips to help you choose that perfect front door colour and make a real statement.

Tips to Help You Choose That Perfect Front Door Colour

Light Matters. Always view your colour selections outside, to see the true effect of natural light before making your final choice. North-facing homes tend to attract cool light, and for south-facing homes, the light tends to be warm and intense.  Colour is subjective, so those light differences can make the SAME colour APPEAR quite different on your front door than on the house across the street.

Don’t be Shy. Since it’s a relatively small area compared to the rest of the house, you can afford to take risks with the front door and be more adventurous with colour.   A current trend is to use a pastel colour like pink, coral or pale blue. This works especially well with a home clad in white or any pale neutral. Harbour Haze 2136-60 is one of my favourites.  Just remember that dark coloured brick or stone can overwhelm a pale door. For darker coloured homes, consider a bolder shade like Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy HC-154.

Accessorize. Select hardware that coordinates with the overall style and colour scheme of your home. Black iron and elegant gold tones continue to be the trendiest metals in home design, so consider updating your door handle, knocker or mail slot. Hardware, like jewellery, is the perfect finishing touch to make a statement with your front door.

Light or dark, warm or cool, have fun with your colour choice and let your personality shine!
