Welcome to Christmas at the Manor. This heritage home is called the Cameron Home. It’s nestled in the tree tops with ocean views just outside of Vancouver. Built in 1916, this estate home has been crafted into a stunning family home full of charm and heritage. Moreover, it’s the perfect home for the holidays!

We decorated the Cameron Home for the 2019 Homes for the Holidays Vancouver tour in support of Kids Help Phone. Thinking about Christmas brings us back to our childhood. Therefore, when decorating this Home for the Holidays, we gave a nod to all those loving childhood memories. Memories every child deserves.

Welcome to Christmas at the Manor!

Living Room Decked Out for the Holiday

This formal living room is a moody space. The deep, royal blue, sea grass walls lend perfectly to green and gold accents and pops of textures. Firstly, on the piano, we stacked three wreaths on top of each other and filled a glass bowl with balls to create a feature. This is a simple way to repurpose ornaments and items from around your home. Secondly, we tied three artificial wreaths together and hung them above the fireplace. Ferns, twigs, gold painted décor create a stunning piece that reflects off the mirror fireplace wall. This organic piece adds depth and charm to the space.

Also, we used a metal basket in place of a Christmas tree stand to add charm and texture. We kept the tree ornaments simple, layering golds, tarnished metals and textured glass balls all in the same monochromatic tone. We layered in gold painted branches, ferns and real greenery that you might find in one’s dining room centrepiece. Therefore, adding an old-world charm with a modern, sophisticated twist.

Playful Christmas Rec Room

In the large, open-concept rec room, we wanted to create a fun feature. So, we layered a few different tree types and sizes and pulled them all together with the simple exterior bulb lighting. In addition, a traditional Christmas train runs around the base of the trees. Also, we provide multiple sitting areas to gather and keep the décor clean and relaxed.

Dining Room at the Manor

Playing off the traditional furniture, area rug and light fixture, we wanted to add modern charm to the space with unique and organic touches. For instance, draping ferns, tree trimmings and greens over the existing light fixture creates a focal point with height. This replaces the need for a large centrepiece and gives everyone at the table ample space to have amazing conversation all around the table.

Further, we layered white, green and gold ornaments along the table to add depth and organic warmth to the space. Mixing Grandma’s china with modern pieces and adding a simple touch to the napkin added a relaxed yet traditional feel to the space. One simple way to create a unique plate setting is to hand-write a name card and tuck it in the napkin for a personal touch. Add some tree trimmings and an antique key for stylish texture.

Hudson’s Bay Bedroom

Yes, we did! We added a Christmas tree to the son’s bedroom. Plus, we played off the heritage and masculine feel of the traditional Hudson’s Bay colour scheme. Adding a playful spin to the space, we carried the burlap theme through, mixing in chrome and shades of blue. In addition, we incorporated a sun-bleached driftwood tree; a fun find created by a local artist.
