Whether your home has a contemporary, traditional or rustic aesthetic, a touch of black makes a bold visual statement. Here are some tips for using black as an outdoor accent colour.

Tips for Using Black as an Outdoor Accent Colour

Harmonize your colours and finishes. Painting with black may seem overwhelming, but the right amount will bring the perfect contrast to details and even adds an elegant touch. The key to incorporating black is to ensure it is balanced. So, pay attention to the entire composition, balancing heavier and darker finishes and materials with lighter ones. Too much of anything all in one area, light or dark, can throw off the harmony in a façade, just as it can with interior design.

Highlight your home’s natural beauty. One of the best places to incorporate a strong hue like black is on your homes’ architectural details. Archways, framing, trim and pillars are ideal places to consider black paint. These elements add a lot of character and make every home unique, so don’t be afraid to enhance them.

And finally – don’t forget about the doors. Your front, side and backyard doors are key focal points that have a big impact.  A fresh coat of black paint – whether it’s Grand Entrance’s exclusive 10 Downing Street or one of my personal favourites, Black Satin, classic black will always add depth and dimension.
